I received my BSc degree in Materials Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas, Venezuela) and then obtained a MSc in Macromolecular Physical-Chemistry from the Ecole d´Applications des Hauts Polymères/Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg, France). My professional career started working as a Researcher at INTEVEP, the top level Institute of Research and Technology of the state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (Caracas, Venezuela). Then I held the position of Associate Professor in Materials Engineering at Simón Bolívar University (Caracas, Venezuela). In 2008, I joined the Nanocomposites Group at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology, ICTP-CSIC (Madrid, Spain) and got my PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University (Madrid, Spain). In 2014 I was awarded with a Marie Curie Fellowship and joined the group of Prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag at Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands) working in self-healing elastomers. In 2017, I returned to Spain with a Research Contract given by the Ministry of Economics of Spain to work as Principal Investigator (PI) at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (2017-2019). Since March 2019, I hold the position of Ramón y Cajal Researcher.

  • Research Interests

My research activities are in the area of rubber composites. I am currently developing three main areas:

  1. structure and dynamics of rubber composites,
  2. self-healing rubbers and composites,
  3. scrap rubber applications.
